SssCat Automated Area Deterrent Review
All our reviews are written by readers of The Scaredy Cat. The SssCat Automated Area Deterrent review was written by Maggie White. Maggie was having issues with her cat scratching at her sofa after paying out to have it re-upholstered she knew it was time to sort out the cause of the problem…
Ssscat is an automated water sprayer that can be used to deter cats within a 1 metre radius of the device. It is specifically designed for indoor use and once cats realize that they are the trigger, they will stay away from the given area. Ssscat is often used to prevent cats from jumping on tables, scratching furniture and playing with electrical wires; however, some people also use it to block off certain rooms as well.
Problem
As a kitten my cat always had a fascination with the corner of the sofa. I don’t know why, but every time I turned away I’d hear scratching on the leather. As the years went by this strange fascination only seemed to get worse. Now that my cat is of age, the problem is worse than ever, as he now has the claws to actually cause costly damage.
Over the past two years I’ve had to reupholster the sofa twice and since all of the leather has to be changed, it’s far from cheap. When it needed upholstering for the second time I decided that I wasn’t going to move forward with it until the problem was solved; otherwise it’ll just happen again. I checked a few forums on the Internet to get some advice and heard the usual methods – spray them with water, move them away, etc. But all of the methods mentioned were tried and tested and failed miserably.
Eventually somebody recommended SssCat Automated Area Deterrent. Since I’m away a lot most of the damage occurs when I’m not around, so I thought an automated product would be ideal. I purchased the device and put it in place. It was amusing watching my confused cat as he approached the sofa over and over again. It took around a week for him to completely stop approaching that area.
Pros
Ssscat is easy to use and requires no real setup. It can be discreetly placed virtually anywhere, which is ideal for me as I’m a clean freak with a very particular aesthetic. Best of all, it’s cheap. Many other products I’ve used have required refills of god-knows-what or have cost upwards of £100 only to break after a few weeks. Ssscat is certainly worth the small price.
Cons
I recently recommended Ssscat to a friend who is having a similar problem. She’s not one for using the Internet, but couldn’t find it anywhere. The only problem with the device itself is that it can’t tell when something is cat or human and occasionally I forget about it; at least until I feel a wet patch on my leg.
